Clothesline Project on Display in Bennington County

Bearing witness to survivors in our community.

The Clothesline Project and Silhouettes on display in Adams Park, Manchester, VT in April 2018. See below for 2019 display locations.

In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Project Against Violent Encounters is once again partnering with the Bennington County Child Advocacy Center & Special Investigations Unit for The Clothesline Project and Silhouette Display.

The Clothesline Project was started in Cape Cod, MA in 1990. This is a visual display that bears witness to victims of sexual violence. A clothesline is hung with shirts that each represent a particular survivor’s experience. The shirts are created by the survivor herself or by someone who cares about her.

This moving display also includes life-sized wooden silhouettes of men, women, and children holding local and national sexual assault statistics. Lastly, there were white (children) and red (adult) flags representing the number of local reports of sexual assault in Bennington County for 2018.
